Dallas Stars vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

Dallas Comicon Fan Days

The popularity of Comic Cons are on the rise, and it’s no question why! With an all-star lineup of celebrity guests featuring Melissa McBride from the wildly popular The Walking Dead to Alex Kingston from Dr. Who and many, many more, the Dallas ComiC Con Fan Days is sure to be an incredible experience. The event will host Cosplay to discussion panels and opportunities to meet and get photos with some of your favorite celebrities. Rain Barrels 101

When: February 3, 2015

Self-sustainability is important to Texans, and the use of rain barrels offers a variety of uses from home irrigation to drinking water (after proper purification!) Even in Texas where we lack rain much of the time, you can learn how to harvest the rainwater to water your plants and beyond! Learn how to install,use, and maintain a rain barrel at the Environmental Education Center!

 

 

 

Spay Day Special for Plano, Texas Cats!

February 19, 2015

In honor of Spay Day USA, the Plano Animal Services Department will perform neutering services for male cats for only a nickel on Thursday, February 19 at the Plano Animal Shelter. Bring your rabies and FVRCP-current pet cats (no feral cats) to the Animal Shelter in a labeled pet carrier and get your fuzzy friend fixed for only five cents! Appointments are required! City of Plano residents are required to register their cat with the city for a small additional fee.

(They also offer $15 microchips on that day-something that could reunite your pet if he ever becomes lost!)

 

 

Squirrel Care 101-Wildlife Rehab

When: February 21, 2015 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

If you’re the kind of person who always seems to come across sick, lost animals-Squirrel 101 may open your eyes to a providing care for Texas’ wild squirrels. This class is designed for those who are interested in caring for ill, injured, and orphaned baby squirrels. Learn everything from Squirrel history and squirrel development to nutrition and release. Daddy’s Little Sweetheart Dance

An event designed for fathers and daughters to spend a memorable evening together for girls 4-12 years. The father-daughter dance requires registration and the fee is 15 dollar per person. Master Composting

In the vein of Texas self-sustainability, join the Environmental Education Center for a Master Composting class. Spring is just around the corner, and gardens will soon start going in! You can fertilize your garden with compost from your own kitchen after taking the four-class composting series at the Environmental Education Center. Learn how to improve the health of your soil by using what you’d throw away in your kitchen! If you’re taking the Master Composting class, you are asked to complete 20 community service hours to advance local composting efforts. Kids growing up in the Internet Age are reading less and less as technology becomes more prevalent, and libraries are nearly becoming extinct. Instilling a love for reading in kids grades 1-5 is both important and can save Plano’s public libraries!  Encourage your child’s love of reading by celebrating the 2015 Caldecott Award winner with the Davis Library! Carpenter Park First Annual Basketball Classic

The Carpenter Park center presents their first annual basketball classic. The event will include skills and drills activity, a 3-on-3 tournament, a dunking contest, and a free-throw contest. Lunch (and a free t-shirt!) will be provided to all participants!
