Flying Solo: Tips for Your First Place

Moving into a place all your own is exciting, but it can be a daunting task. It’s easy to get caught up in the moving process and forget the little things. Here are five great tips from Wildcat Movers in Plano Texas, that are sure to make your first big move a pleasant one.

1. Get Renter’s Insurance

Often overlooked by new tenants moving across Plano in, renter’s insurance can be a lifesaver. It’s inexpensive and is easily added on to an existing policy, such as car insurance. It protects you under circumstances like fire, flooding, and theft. Ask if your policy covers theft of certain items even outside of your rental property; if someone were to break into your car, for example.

2. Dirty Laundry

People who have easy access to a washing machine often take it for granted. Especially teenagers still living at home. Make sure to get all your laundry done before your big move. That way, you don’t have to unpack it after your local movers bring them to your new home just to trek it all the way to the laundromat.

3. Man’s Best Friend

No, we’re not talking about Fido. A plunger is a tool no one ever thinks about until they need it. So save yourself (or a friend) some embarrassment and purchase one before you move in.

4. Fire Safety

Again, something often not thought of until after it’s too late. Keep yourself and your possessions safe. Make sure to equip your new pad with fire extinguishers, a carbon monoxide detector, and smoke alarms. And check the batteries upon moving in.

5. Plan on takeout!

No one wants to cook after a big move, so check what restaurants in your new neighborhood offer take out. Just don’t forget to ask for paper plates and plastic silverware!
