How to Pack Mugs for Moving: Ensuring Your Favorite Coffee Cups Stay Safe

Mugs are one of the most commonly used items in most homes, but they’re also fragile and prone to breaking during a move. To keep your cherished collection intact, it’s essential to use the right packing techniques. As a leading moving team in Dallas, we’ve compiled some practical tips to ensure your mugs arrive at your new home unscathed.

Use the Right Box

Start by selecting the right-sized box for your mugs. A small or medium-sized box works best for packing mugs, as they should fit snugly but not be overcrowded. Using a box that is too large increases the risk of shifting and breaking during transit.

Wrap Each Mug Individually

Wrap each mug individually in bubble wrap or packing paper. Be sure to cover the handle and base of the mug, as these areas are most vulnerable. If you’re using packing paper, crumple it around the mug and secure it with tape. Bubble wrap provides a thicker cushion and helps prevent chipping or breaking.

Use Dividers for Extra Protection

For an added layer of protection, use cardboard dividers or egg cartons inside the box to separate each mug. This will prevent them from knocking into each other during the move. If you don’t have dividers, you can also use extra packing paper to create partitions.

Fill Empty Spaces

Once all the mugs are packed in the box, fill any empty spaces with crumpled paper, packing peanuts, or bubble wrap to keep the mugs from shifting. This will help protect them from impact during the move.

Label the Box Clearly

Finally, label the box with “Fragile” and mark it with “This Side Up” to ensure it’s handled carefully. If you have multiple boxes containing mugs, keep a list to easily identify where each box should go.
