What Did Moves Like Yours Actually Cost?

Tell us where you are starting, what kind of home you are moving from, roughly how large and how full it is, and how far you are going. We will compare your move with the closest completed Wildcat moves from summer 2026.

Choose the range that best describes your current home. The summer move records use home-size ranges rather than exact square footage.

How full is your home?

Think about furniture, boxes, closets, garage items, and storage—not how many people live in the home.

For local moves, home size, how full the home is, and mileage all shape the comparison. For Texas long-distance and interstate moves, home size and fullness are not used because there are fewer comparable summer moves with that information.

Match quality shows how closely the past moves resemble the details you entered. Even a close match is still a guide to past prices, not a quote for your move.

Home size

How Much Did Dallas-Area Moves Cost by Home Size?

The pattern is straightforward: bigger homes usually cost more to move because there is more to load, more time on the clock, and often a larger crew. Customers reported home size as ranges, so the guide uses those same kinds of ranges instead of pretending every home was measured to the exact square foot.

Median final cost by home size

Local moves only: use the City and Property filters to narrow the comparison. Home size stays open so you can compare the bands side by side. This section is based on 338 local moves with reported home-size information.

Does It Cost More to Move a House Than an Apartment?

At first glance, houses cost more to move than apartments. Much of that difference comes from size: houses in these summer moves were generally larger. Comparing homes within the same size range gives a clearer picture of how property type affects the bill.

Square Footage Helps. Inventory Tells More of the Story.

Two homes in the same size range can contain very different amounts of furniture, boxes, garage gear, and everything else that has to go on the truck. That is why shipment volume tracks the work more directly than square footage alone.

Distance

What Happens to the Price as the Move Gets Farther?

For a local move, a few extra miles usually matter less than how much you own and how long loading and unloading take. Once the move stretches across Texas—or across state lines—the transportation side of the bill becomes much more important.

The jump is not simply “more miles.” Longer moves shift the structure of the bill toward transportation and route-related charges.
Dallas Metro

What Did Moves Cost Around the Dallas Metro?

Dallas, Plano, Frisco, Richardson, Carrollton and the rest of the metro do not all produce identical moving bills—but city alone is rarely the whole story. To keep the comparison useful, a city only appears when at least 10 local moves remain in the current view.

Local moves only: Property and Home Size filters narrow the comparison. City stays open so you can compare places across the metro.

What Are You Actually Paying For?

A local bill is mostly about labor. On longer moves, transportation takes a much bigger share. Use the tabs to see how the mix changes between local, Texas long-distance, and interstate moves.

Estimate vs. actual

How Close Were Estimates to Final Charges?

An estimate is a starting point, not a photocopy of the final bill. Inventory changes, packing, access, added services, and the actual time on moving day can all move the number. Here is how often the original estimate landed close to what customers ultimately paid.

How Far Ahead Did Dallas-Area Customers Book?

Summer moving schedules fill unevenly, and local customers did not plan on the same timeline as people heading across Texas or out of state. The booking data shows how much lead time customers actually gave themselves.

About the numbers

How to Read This Guide

Real summer moves

The guide is based on 797 completed residential Wildcat Movers jobs from May through August 2026, including local, Texas long-distance, and interstate moves.

Residential moves

The guide focuses on moves that started from a house, apartment, townhouse, or high-rise. Commercial, storage, and other nonresidential jobs are not part of the consumer price comparisons.

Home size is a range

Customers reported home size in ranges rather than exact measurements. That is why the guide compares categories such as 1,200–1,599 sq. ft. instead of treating every home as if it had a precise measured size.

Individual jobs are rounded

To keep the real-move examples useful without making individual jobs unnecessarily identifiable, cost is rounded to the nearest $10, distance to the nearest mile, and shipment volume to the nearest 25 cubic feet.

Where home-size charts come from

Home-size information is available for 357 residential moves, including 338 local moves. Those are the moves used in the home-size and inventory sections.

What “typical range” means

The calculator’s typical range is the middle half of comparable completed moves. It is useful context, not a promise that your move will land inside that range.

Why we lead with the median

A few unusually large or complicated moves can push an average up quickly. The median gives a better picture of the middle of the market.

Some charts use fewer moves

Home-size information was not available for every completed move, so the home-size and inventory sections use the moves where customers reported it.

Why you will not see bedroom estimates

Bedroom count was not recorded consistently enough to use here, so the guide sticks to the home-size ranges customers actually reported.
