Finally! After all of the cleaning, purging, wrapping, packing, organizing, scheduling local movers, taking time off work and uprooting your life, all of your stuff is moved into your new home! It might be tempting to just start tearing into boxes, but doing that can cause a disorganized mess that can leave you feeling overwhelmed while your new home is in disarray.
Wildcat Movers has a few unpacking tips that can keep you sane after your long moving process!
1. Prioritize
Start with the basics. You might know from reading our other articles that it’s easier to have an overnight back packed with essentials, but you’ll need beyond what you plan on using for a day or two.
Start with what you use the most: unpack boxes from the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. Make sure you unpack things like your bed and toilet paper first!
2. Start With a Vision
Envision how you’d like your new rooms to look before you start tearing things out of boxes. Avoid the chaos of lost items, messes, and stress, picture what you’d like where to help keep you on track.
3. Finish What You Start
Although unpacking and organizing can be tedious and it might be tempting to move from one project to another, doing that will only lead to stress. Start with one room, and don’t finish until everything is unpacked, put away, and the boxes torn down.
4. Get Everyone Involved:
Don’t be afraid to let the kids help! By giving the kids a job or project, they feel more involved in the moving process and will more quickly adapt into their new home. If you really prefer to do all of the unpacking yourself or you have young kids, set them up with crafts to make decorations for their new rooms.
5. Take Your Time
Moving is stressful, and is sometimes a long process. You probably didn’t pack in a day, don’t feel pressured to have your entire place set up in a few hours. Enjoy the newness of your fresh start and take your time!
Wildcat Movers wishes you the best in your new home!
