As local Plano movers, none of us here at Wildcat Movers go out of town too often. A lot of people who work a lot may be in the same position as us. What can you do to get the feel of a vacation, without leaving home? Many of us overlook the places right in our local cities that people travel to visit! If you are moving this can be even more exciting, as you get to know your new hometown.
Check out vacation websites, and find out what destinations people are traveling to your town to see. There are almost certainly quirky, interesting, or just plain fun attractions that locals often skip, but tourists love. Visiting Plano, Texas is actually a vacation destination for some people!
Segway tours, orchard hay rides, murder mystery dinner theater, even historical landmarks. Try to look at your city with a fresh set of eyes. If you were making a special trip to see things, what would you want to do? Try to find things that will be a fun memory to look back on. Don’t forget to invite your friends-or visit places recommended by your Plano, Texas moving company!
Get outside. Chances are, you haven’t been to every park, or hiked every trail near you, whether you’re a longtime Plano resident or have just moved to Plano. There are so many beautiful places, you may discover a new favorite path to walk the dogs, or a great playground to bring the kids. If you’re artistically inclined, take a camera on your nature walk, and channel your inner Ansell Adams as you capture the landscape in a photograph. Or, grab some leaves and get crafty creating a funky piece of art to remind you of your day. You can also stretch your legs at the local zoo or aquarium.
Don’t be embarrassed.
What if someone sees you scooting around town on a Segway with that dorky helmet on? Who cares! They will probably be jealous you’re having so much fun. Don’t let what other people think influence the decisions you make about your awesome day. Get into character at the dinner theater, pick out a cool outfit for the local showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and wear that helmet proudly!
History is cool.
Look to see if there are free days at your local museums. If not, it’s still an inexpensive way to spend the day learning about things that interest you. Often there are so many museums, it’s hard to pick which one to go to. Art, natural history, science, even doll museums! You can also find governor’s mansions, capitol buildings, and other historical places to see, and learn about why they’re important.
Take a class.
You don’t have to make a huge commitment to learn a new skill. If you have a free weekend, sign up for a cooking, art, or dance class, or even a writing workshop. You’ll feel refreshed getting out of the nine to five grind, and might discover a new hobby. Also check out your local newspapers and do a search on what to do when moving in Plano, Texas to find cool, local activities.
Hopefully your weekends won’t just seem like a break from work, they’ll start to feel like a mini vacation as you continue to explore your city. Don’t just live in your town, visit it, explore it, and most importantly, have fun!
