1. It’s Never Too Early To Start

Packing, that is. If you’re packing without the help of a local moving company, make sure to give yourself ample time. Don’t feel like you need to get everything done at once. Start a few days, or even a week early, boxing up and labeling nonessential items. Otherwise, you may get overwhelmed and run out of time, making your exciting move hectic and stressful.

2. Separate the Essentials

People often talk about packing an overnight bag with a change of clothes and a toothbrush, but we recommend even an entire box with everything you need to be comfortable on your first night. Include things like a set of sheets, a trash bag, toiletries, a shower curtain with rings, and toilet paper. You could even throw in some candles, a movie, or a book. Anything you won’t want to search for after a day of moving.

3. Size Matters

To pack like a pro, make sure you use the right box for the job. Heavy or fragile items, such as books or your figurine collection, should go in smaller boxes. Lighter, bulkier items can be put in larger boxes. Make sure you get a variety of sizes.

4.  Shrink Wrap

Shrink wrap is your new best friend. It keeps doors and drawers shut, protects against scratching, and conforms to any shape. It is a wonderful tool to have in your moving arsenal.
