Moving in Hot versus Cold Weather

While we aren’t always lucky enough to be able to choose when we move, when you are fortunate enough to be able to have some time to plan it well in advance, considering the time of year can help you decide on when its time to start packing and beginning the moving process.

Colder Months

Moving in the winter is often less expensive, as it is not a peak moving season and boxes leftover from holiday gifts are abound. Moving in the winter means it’s easier to schedule your movers, as the winter season is slower. However, money-saving tips aside, freezing temperatures and dangerous weather conditions can be problematic. Ice and snow can be hazardous to drive a large truck around it, and you may slip and fall trying to carry your heavy belongings by yourself. Hiring a local College Station moving company is beneficial, and having an experienced team to navigate a truck in the snow and to safely move your belongings can be a life saver!

Another consideration to make if you are moving in extreme weather conditions is the condition of the place you are moving. If you are changing climates, have a weather-appropriate change of clothes handy for when you arrive at your destination!

Warmer Months

In Texas, we’re known for our brutal summers, and moving during the hottest months of the year have both upsides and pitfalls. Families with school age children benefit from summer moves because children are likely out of school and the family has time to adjust before the new school year begins (and the kids are around to help out!) Moving in the summer, however, can be difficult on your body. Drink plenty of water, make sure you take breaks to stay cool, and call professional movers who are experienced in moving in all sorts of situations!
